Strengthening wellbeing through a kaupapa māori approach

What is Kia Piki Te Ora?

Kia Piki Te Ora has a rich 20-year history as a Māori Public Health approach to suicide prevention. Reset and codesigned across Aotearoa in 2023, the Muriwhenua co-design leads a transformative and improved approach based on kaupapa Māori principles. This service aims to build a strong system that supports wellbeing and effectively responds to the diverse needs of our communities by supporting Māori leadership in suicide prevention.

Healing Wānanga

The Kia Piki Te Ora Māori Suicide Prevention Team recently hosted a profoundly moving healing wānanga at Waimanoni Marae in Awanui, held from the 12th to the 14th of April. This event aimed to support Muriwhenua whānau affected by suicide, providing a space for healing through rongoā Māori and the wisdom of our ancestors.
